U Queensland Avance II+ 900 Installation and Opening Ceremonies
On Friday 28th July 2006, the University of Queensland Avance II 900 installation and basic user training were successfully completed. Installation and charging of the magnet was done by Mr Norbert Konieczny and the console installation was done by Mr Ralf Ruin, one of the most experienced of the German installation engineers. The system is now available for use. It is installed in a purpose built laboratory in the Queensland Biosciences Precint and is managed by the University's Centre for Magnetic Resonance.
The spectrometer is the latest Avance II+ model with second generation Digital Receiver Unit (for higher over-sampling rates) and high frequency receiver (720MHz for cleaner signals) plus other recent enhancements.
Currently available probe is a 5mm TXI 1H/13C/15N with z-gradient and automatic tuning and matching is. All specifications were easily exceeded. A 5mm TCI 1H/13C/15N Cryoprobe with z-gradient, automatic tuning & matching, cooled 13C preamplifier and positioning unit for shaped sample tubes is waiting to be installed.
On Monday 25th September, Premier Peter Beattie launched the Queensland NMR Network and opened the Avance 900 facility. This was followed on Tuesday 26th September by a Symposium at the Queensland Bioscience Precinct to celebrate the opening. Speakers included Prof Gerhard Wider, ETH, Zurich and Prof Gottfried Otting, RSC, ANU.
