Bruker’s MALDI Biotyper enables molecular based epidemiology and taxonomic studies of microorganisms

Because of its broad applicability, speed of analysis and sample processing costs the MALDI Biotyper is ideally suited to the role of fingerprinting microorganisms. The system’s ability to identify microorganisms to the species levels and beyond coupled with its ability to classify microorganisms based on their molecular fingerprint makes it a powerful tool in any microbiological research program.

MALDI-TOF based microorganism fingerprinting, facilitates research in microorganism diversity on a scale that is typically prohibitive using sequence based technologies.

The MALDI Biotyper is coupled with a sophisticated bioinformatics package which utilizes powerful algorithms to compare molecular fingerprints and generate dendrograms similar to those seen following sequencing. Advanced multivariate analysis tools can also be used to further discriminate microorganisms and study their phylogenetic relationships.
