In 2019, SARS-CoV-2 emerged as a novel pathogen causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Categorised as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in March 2020, COVID-19 affected multiple countries across all populated continents. Rapid testing plays an important role as societies seek to contain, delay and mitigate the effects of the outbreak.
Many labs are in need of a rapid and specific detection method to assist with outbreak management.
The WHO recommends that suspected cases are screened by nucleic acid amplification tests.
