Analysis of a Biological Sample

In this application example, we look at the ovipositor (sting and egg layer) of the parasitoid wasp monolexis fuscicornis. It was carried out under low vacuum conditions at 20 Pa. The map was acquired at 5 kV, 1.8 nA beam currrent, resultin in a ICR of 20 kcps, orighinal size was 320 x 240 pixels, 460 nm pixel size, 31 minrecoding time. The images show only segments (320 x 80 pixels) of the whole map. (Sample courtesy: G.R. Broad, The Natural History Museum, London, UK). The analysis reveals that the oviposotor is reinforced by ZnO biomineralization and contamination with NaCl is also visible. Data quality is sufficient to allow efficient separation of overlapping element lines (Zn L, Na K) using an automatic deconvolution routine.
