PANIC 2021

Oct 17-20 2021, Nashville, Tennessee

Bruker at Practical Applications of NMR in Industry Conference (PANIC) 2021

The Bruker Team is excited to participate in this year’s PANIC Annual Conference, October 17 – 20, 2021. PANIC was initiated to provide a unique interactive forum for discussion of the latest developments in the use of NMR for practical applications to real problems faced by scientists in industry and research institutions. The emphasis is the practicality of the solution and “getting the job done.”

The Bruker Sales and Applications Scientists will be on hand to discuss your NMR needs and to learn what the NMR community has been up to in the past year. We also welcome you to join us at the Bruker & Mestrelab User Meeting:

Date: Sunday, October 17, 2021

Time: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Location: Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN

Room: Parthenon Ballroom

Speakers include: Clemens Anklin, Amy Freund, Tim Laker, Mark Dixon, and Chen Peng

Please also visit the official conference website for more details.

Dr. Clemens Anklin

Vice President of NMR Applications and Training - Bruker BioSpin - Billerica, Massachusetts

In 1984 Clemens Anklin obtained a PhD in chemistry from the Swiss Institute of Technology ETH. In 1984 he joined Spectrospin (later Bruker) as a NMR applications scientist and in 1988 transferred to the United States to build an applications team in the US. He now serves as Vice President for NMR applications and training for the Americas.

Amy Freund Ph.D.

Senior Applications Scientist II / Applications Development Product Manager Bruker BioSpin

Dr. Amy Freund has been an applications scientist with Bruker for over 20 years. Her work focuses on the utilization of high-throughput NMR in the fields of metabolomics, screening and drug discovery. Areas of expertise include quantitative NMR, decoupling techniques, cryoprobe technology, small volume NMR, and semi-solid HR-MAS NMR. Complimenting her work training and assisting customers, Dr. Freund is product manager for AssureSST and AutoCalibrate, software tools for instrument performance monitoring and calibration, respectively. For these projects, she takes insight gathered from her interactions with colleagues and customers; conversations, troubleshooting and training to spot bottlenecks in workflows and develop tools to streamline/automate instrument maintenance.

Mark Dixon
Senior Account Manager and Business Development, USA & Canada, Mestrelab

After growing up in Manchester, England, Mark spent seven joyous years at Nottingham University playing drums and generally having a good time, while occasionally studying chemistry before graduating with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. Mark cut his teeth in Pharmaceutical R&D as an NMR Spectroscopy specialist at Fisons, then Astra, which finally morphed into AstraZeneca, all while sitting at the same desk. A fascination with the science of NMR eventually got the better of Mark, and so began an ongoing adventure to California, firstly with Varian in Palo Alto working with the Applications team, followed by a move to Marketing in the role of Software Product Manager. After the sad demise of Varian, Mark discovered the unpredictable frontier of benchtop NMR spectroscopy as Product Manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s picoSpin NMR spectrometer, before starting at Mestrelab Research in late 2016.

Chen Peng
VP of Business Development, North America & Asia, Mestrelab

Dr. Chen Peng is the Vice President of Business Development for North America and Asia since he joined Mestrelab Research S.L. in May 2008. He got his B.Sc. in Organometallic Chemistry from Wuhan University, China. He obtained his PhD from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry with a dissertation work on computer-assisted structure elucidation for organic compounds and natural products using 1D and 2D NMR data. Between he did post-doctoral research work on selective excitation NMR spectroscopy in Prof Geoffrey Bodenhausen’s group in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (Tallahassee, FL).
