Remote Courses
Remote training courses will be hosted via video conference and will cover the same topics as the courses hosted at our Karlsruhe facility. The course will be broken up into a morning session and afternoon session (participants will attend both). Course work will include lecture sessions on principles of X-ray analysis as well as training sessions with different software packages. Participants will receive a customized virtual training environment complete with latest software versions and exercises.
This training course will show the different methods used for quantitative phase analysis, with the focus on using the DIFFRAC.TOPAS software package. The course is intended for users with experience in XRD, new users are strongly encouraged to first attend the X-ray Powder Diffraction Basics course. The course will be conducted in either English or German, as shown on the course schedule page.
This course takes place in the same week as the “Powder Diffraction Basics” course.
Remote courses will contain a morning and afternoon session.

Day 1
- Introduction to DIFFRAC.TOPAS
- Profile fitting using fundamental parameters approach
- Introduction to the Rietveld method
- Quantitative phase analysis
- Crystallite size and microstructure analysis
Day 2
- Analyzing tricky samples (preferred orientation, microabsorption, ...)
- User problems
- Judging quality of Rietveld refinements
- Customizing settings and reporting
- Amorphous content determination
More details:
The participant should be familiar with the equipment and all its components and their functions. Knowledge of the basic principles of the operation of the system is a prerequisite. Training should not precede the installation of the system concerned.

Class sizes are limited, so that each participant receives individual attention and participates in all hands-on activities. Early registration is encouraged as registrations are accepted on a first-come/first-served basis.
Attendance fee
For courses taking place at our Karlsruhe facility, the course price includes course materials, lunch, and refreshments. Travel and accommodation are not included.
For remote courses, the fee includes 1 hour of remote follow-up support (to be used within 1 month after completion of the course).
Cancellation
Registrations cancelled within 10 working days prior to the start of the course are subject to a cancellation fee of 30 %. Registered persons not attending the course without having given prior notice will be fully charged. We reserve the right to cancel a course if there are less than three registrants by the registration deadline.
