Fast microorganism identification combined with instant, automated typing

A major reason for the broad application of the MALDI Biotyper for identification of microorganisms is the superb discriminatory power of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. It allows for the accurate and fast identification of thousands of microorganism species. However there are (some) species still difficult to differentiate.

Distinguish the indistinguishable

Bruker are constantly working on the refinement of the discriminatory power of the MALDI Biotyper to overcome differentiation hurdles. One outcome of our efforts is the MBT Subtyping software module. This tool allows now for automated differentiation of the Mycobacterium chimaera / Mycobacterium intracellulare complex, of Listeria monocytogenes from its close relatives and facilitates Elizabethkingia species differentiation.

In need for speed – the detection of resistances

Antibiotic resistance bacteria are on the rise and effective prevention and control are therefore of high importance in healthcare. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry has the potential to identify specific resistances, and the MBT Subtyping Module delivers convincing evidence. It combines the identification of important pathogens with automated subsequent detection of specific resistances in one automated workflow. Available are now the detection of KPC-producing Enterobacteriaceae, MRSA subtyping and Bacteroides fragilis cfiA subtyping.

Seamless and fast

To acquire a typing result, no additional sample preparation is required once the samples are directly transferred to MALDI target plates. When the bacterium has been identified, the software automatically performs the typing and result reporting.
