Intelligent Goniometer Control - 3D robotic path planning

Within the concept of DAVINCI.DESIGN the D8 QUEST and the D8 VENTURE use a revolutionary 3D robotic path planning algorithm to efficiently drive the goniometer, maximizing the system’s capabilities. The path planning software continuously checks the validity of the experimental setup. Hardware recognition identifies components like mirrors, collimators or beamstops automatically.

The intelligent beam path components store all important information about functionality, spatial requirements and dependencies with other components in a memory chip.

Adding the knowledge about the current position of each component provides an up-to-date 3D model of the system and allows the dynamic calculation of an efficient and safe goniometer driving path:

  • Adding or removing a component from the system is instantly updated in the instrument status and available for automated software path planning.
  • Obscurations of the detector by components of the goniometer are rigorously avoided and collisions are made impossible.
  • New hardware components can be added with no need for a firmware update.
