DiffBB Probe

The DiffBB is a broadband gradient probe for diffusion applications in standard bore, and wide bore magnets, optimized for very strong gradient pulses made for samples in 5 mm sample tubes. Its broadband capability supports 1H and 19F, and a broadband X nucleus range from 31P to 15N, plus a 2H lock channel.

Gradient pulse strength, linearity and fast switching times are judiciously balanced to deliver an optimized solution for the study of samples with slow diffusion and short transverse relaxation times. Diffusion constants down to the range of D ~ 10 -14 m2/s can be detected, if the probe is connected to a Great60 amplifier with 60 A maximum current and to water cooling. The echo times of such diffusion experiments can be shortened to enable the investigation of samples of approximately
10 ms T2 relaxation times at maximum gradient strengths of 17 T/m.

Another possibility is to connect the DiffBB to a Great10 amplifier providing a maximum current of 10 A and air cooling allowing to detect diffusion constants of D  ~ 10 -12 m2/s with a maximum gradient strength of 2.8 T/m. This is much more compared to what is possible with High Resolution probes which provide 0.5 T/m. Polymers and electrolytes are candidates to be studied already with the DiffBB @ 10A.

DiffBB probes are available as broadband observe (BBO) and as broadband inverse (BBI) probe models .

The variable temperature capability enables studies of many materials at different molecular mobility states between -40°C and +150°C. Together with the Automatic Tuning and Matching (ATMA) feature the DiffBB probe provides a quick and comfortable usage for a wide range of nuclei at variable temperatures. Using ATMA allows setting up a series of experiments for different nuclei and different temperatures and getting them done without further user interference during the entire experimental session.
