AVANCE/TopSpin Courses 2017

Operator Course Synopsis

The standard AVANCE/TopSpin course is aimed at new operators of standard high-resolution NMR spectrometers, covering instrument operation of typical 1D and 2D NMR experiments, automation operation and spectrometer maintenance. The course is orientated around ‘how to’ perform experiments and tasks, and only provides a brief introduction to NMR theory. The course includes practical exercises, demonstrations, and lectures.

  • Monday: Introduction to NMR Theory and Experiments
  • Tuesday: Basics of Acquisition and Processing
  • Wednesday: Maintenance and Advanced Techniques
  • Thursday: Automation and AU Programming
  • Friday: Software Installation & Hardware Maintenance

Course cost for the five days course is £1,250 plus VAT. This includes a buffet lunch each day, a course dinner on Thursday evening and a comprehensive training manual. Delegates' travel and subsistence are excluded.

Applications Course Synopsis

The advanced version of the course is aimed at users with previous experience of Bruker spectrometers, and will quickly review the topics from the standard course, then move on to implementation of more specialised methods – again the emphasis is on ‘how to’ rather than NMR theory. It is expected that attendees are already comfortable running standard experiments on Bruker NMR spectrometers. The final program will be determined by the requirements of the attendees (please specify any topics of personal interest) but would be expected to cover:

  • Monday: Review of 1D/2D NMR (lecture and practical)
  • Tuesday - Friday: Automation, AU Programming, Standard Experiments, Plot Editor, Kinetics, VT Work, Hardware Overview & Maintenance, Pulse Programming, Small Molecules (selective experiments, STD, metabonomics), Large Molecules (triple resonance experiments, fast methods, processing techniques, diffusion)

Course cost for the five days course is £1,450 plus VAT. This includes a buffet lunch each day, a course dinner on Thursday evening and a comprehensive training manual. Delegates' travel and subsistence are excluded.

Please note:

The number of places on each course is restricted, so you are advised to return your completed registration form as early as possible. Places will be allocated in the order their registration is received. Should you require a second participant to be registered, please bear in mind that this will be subject to availability of course places, and may only be finalized 2 weeks before the course start date.

Other Courses

Training courses in specialist topics and software packages (labelled protein NMR, more intensive solid-state NMR training, metabonomics, AMIX, etc.) are provided by the main applications labs in Germany and Switzerland. Details of these can be found on the main Bruker website.
