The challenging field of chiral analysis requires a steady development of suitable separation techniques. The hyphenation of an automated chiral derivatization with a post-ionization mobility separation of diastereomers enables a fast investigation of chiral compounds in complex samples. The talk will discuss the key aspects for the derivatization and TIMS-MS detection and will demonstrate the applicability for the chiral investigation of amino acids in food samples.

Eric will give an overview of the benefits of high-resolution mass spectrometry with ion mobility separation for (bio) pharmaceutical applications. The added value of reliable and reproducible CCS values providing a 4th dimension for characterization and identification will be highlighted with examples of some of the key application solutions for pharmaceutical analysis.

Arne Behrens is a Ph.D. candidate in his final year in the group of Prof. Uwe Karst, University of Münster, Germany. He can look back on three years of experience with the timsTOF fleX platform focusing on the method development for trapped ion mobility - mass spectrometry in combination with imaging and chromatographic techniques. Arne and his colleagues investigate a wide variety of analytes on the timsTOF fleX platform, from cannabis and drug metabolites over electrode surfaces and tattoo pigments to metal-protein interactions. They developed a separation method for chiral amino acids using the TIMS dimension and published a fast and automated method, suitable for high throughput analysis.
