In this example subunit analysis was applied to the rapid screening of clones.

A mass shift of 4.0032 Da was observed in the scFc subunit of this particular clone, swiftly identifying an unexpected problem. The mass shift was later identified as an amino acid substitution Thr to Pro.

Screening at the subunit level increases sample throughput reducing the number of samples which require additional, extensive peptide mapping, thus significantly reducing the overall analysis time.
