SampleStream™ and timsOmni™ bring sample preparation and mass spectrometry analysis together in an integrated analytical workflow. By exploring sample handling approaches beyond traditional HPLC or offline desalting, researchers can optimize data quality and expand the possibilities for MS-based protein characterization.
Some projects require efficient comparison across a larger set of protein samples. Others benefit from spending more time investigating individual precursors in greater detail.
The combined SampleStream™ and timsOmni™ workflow is designed to support both high-throughput screening and in-depth top-down characterization.
The joint workflow brings sample handling and measurement closer together. This can help research teams focus on meaningful differences across sample sets while reducing delays introduced by intermediate handling steps. It may also help minimize artefacts associated with storing samples in MS-friendly solvents prior to analysis.
Not every research question can be answered with a rapid measurement. For samples that warrant closer investigation, the workflow supports extended top-down experiments on timsOmni™. This provides additional opportunity to explore proteoform complexity and gain a more detailed understanding of the protein under study. Resulting datasets can be processed with Bruker OmniScape, supporting workflows from de novo sequencing through proteoform confirmation.
Rather than committing every sample to the same analytical path, researchers can select the balance between throughput and analytical depth that best fits the scientific question.
Bruker and Integrated Protein Technologies are combining expertise in automated sample preparation, mass spectrometry, and top-down protein analysis to develop a connected SampleStream™ and timsOmni™ workflow.
Joint activities at IPT's Carlsbad, CA laboratory, Bruker Athens R&D, and with collaborators in Paris are extending the workflow into a variety of research environments. These collaborations provide opportunities to evaluate how automated point-of-use sample preparation can support real analytical challenges.
Together, we see significant opportunities to expand access to high-throughput intact-mass and top-down protein analysis. Integrating SampleStream™ with Bruker's timsOmni™ system represents a powerful combination for protein characterization workflows.
