Microbial Identification for Clinical Laboratories (IVD-CE)

MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit

Direct pathogen identification from positive blood culture bottles within 15-20 minutes

MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that reportedly affects more than 30 million people worldwide each year. Early identification of the causative pathogen significantly improves patient outcomes in terms of morbidity and mortality, and has a positive impact on the healthcare economy. Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is capable of reducing turnaround times by up to 48 hours compared to standard laboratory protocols.

Direct identification from positive blood culture

Bruker’s MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit, used in conjunction with the IVD-CE MALDI Biotyper® (MBT), can identify pathogens from positive blood cultures within 15-20 minutes, in a cost-effective, efficient workflow that allows to improve patient care. The improved Sepsityper® Kit increases MBT identification rates, reducing the time taken to de-escalate patients from empiric therapy, towards more effective, targeted treatment.

The MBT Sepsityper® workflow is IVD-CE approved, and is a very cost-effective alternative to molecular solutions.

Fast identification of pathogens with the MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit

Bruker‘s MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit enables fast and reliable species identification from positive blood cultures. The new workflow has a hands-on time of less than 10 minutes, with an overall time until identification of 15-20 minutes after positive blood culture alert.

In addition to the general time saving of the Sepsityper® kit, assays can also be run in parallel rather than in sequence, further speeding up processes in the lab. The results from the MBT Sepsityper® solution enable physicians to manage blood stream infections, engage in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, and improve patient outcomes.

Fighting antimicrobial resistance

Detecting resistance to first-line antimicrobials is possible as part of the MBT Sepsityper® workflow. The bacterial cells isolated from positively flagged blood cultures can be used in the MBT STAR®-BL IVD assays for beta-lactamase activity detection.

The MBT STAR®-Carba IVD Kit, in conjunction with the MBT STAR®-BL IVD software module, allows rapid identification of bacteria and detection of carbapenemase activity in one workflow. Similarly, by means of the easy-to-use MBT STAR®-Cepha IVD Kit, cephalosporinase activity towards 3rd generation cephalosporins can be detected within one hour from a positive blood culture alert.
