PFAS is a huge chemical group with more than 15,000 species according to US-EPA as registered products and associated degradation compounds. Regulations require the analysis of very low PFAS concentrations on selected compounds in any kind of matrix like water, soil, food or biota, and the demand on sample throughput has been rapidly increasing in the past years.

Challenges in the workflow of PFAS analysis include among others complex sample preparation, cross-contamination and memory effects in the used LC/MS system as well as the risk of an incomplete recording of the entity of all PFAS present in a sample.

Dimitrios E. Damalas

Post Doctoral Researcher at Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Dimitrios E. Damalas is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Athens, specializing in analytical chemistry and metabolomics. He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. from the University of Athens, with research focusing on the toxicity and biotransformation of xenobiotics in aquatic organisms using advanced mass spectrometry techniques. Dimitrios has contributed to several EU-funded projects, published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at numerous international conferences. His research interests include environmental analytical chemistry, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and the study of emerging contaminants. He is an active member of several scientific societies and has received multiple awards for his work.

Arnd Ingendoh

VP Business Development Applied Markets, Bruker Daltonics GmbH & Co KG

Arnd Ingendoh earned his PhD in biophysics in 1994 in the group that pioneered MALDI. After roles at ThermoFisher and Bruker in Japan and the USA, he spent over 15 years as SVP for Commercial Operations EMEA at Bruker Daltonics.

He later joined Syft Technologies to lead European operations in real-time mass spectrometry for air, food, and industrial monitoring. In 2023, he returned to Bruker as VP Business Development for Applied Mass Spectrometry, focusing on innovative technologies for applied markets. He has also taught as a Guest Professor in Vienna and co-authored over 60 publications.
