Metabolic Imaging in animal models of disease using a Bruker system

On Demand Session

Webinar Overview

Greg Stanisz emphasizes the importance of metabolic imaging for identifying tissue state, monitoring and predicting treatment response. He then discusses his spectroscopic work on the effect of gut microbiome on brain metabolism on a mouse diet induced anxiety model. He also investigates metabolism of cancer models via CEST. He uses this to predict tumor treatment success only one week after treatment. He concludes his talk with concise comparison of spectroscopy, CEST, and hyperpolarization.

Speakers

Greg Stanisz, PhD

Senior Scientist - Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto

Greg Stanisz, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada, and a Professor at the Department of Medical Biophysics, University of Toronto. He received his Ph.D. in physics at the Jagellonian University, Cracow, Poland. The goal of his studies is to develop magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods to improve the specificity and sensitivity of non-invasive image methods in characterizing tissue pathology. He is using MRI to evaluate tissue microstructure and metabolism in a variety of different disorders. He is particularly interested in whether nuclear MR measurements can be used to evaluate the processes involved in central nervous system pathologies. He is also using MRI to monitor cancer therapies in preclinical models of cancer and patients. In particular, his group is interested in evaluating changes in tumor microstructure and metabolism and the processes of apoptosis using combined MRI and MR spectroscopy.
