Battery Innovation with Magnetic Resonance

Webinar Overview

Magnetic resonance technology is a key driver of battery innovation. Join us to explore how Bruker’s Magnetic Resonance solutions are applicable to battery cell manufacturing — from raw materials to post-mortem analysis. As active materials significantly impact battery cost structures, precise and efficient testing is essential. Bruker’s instruments optimize coating uniformity, ensure electrolyte quality, and prevent future failures through advanced HF and water quantification.

These solutions are not developed in isolation: Bruker works together with leading industry players and collaborates closely with academic experts deeply involved in technology transfer. This synergy ensures that innovation is both practical and scalable. Learn how to integrate NMR across R&D and production enhances material analysis, reduces scrap rates, and improves process control. Discover how harmonizing quality standards across the supply chain leads to smarter, data-driven decisions and increased productivity.

Key Learning Points

  • Application example: Slurry characterization using Time-Domain NMR (TD-NMR) - TD-NMR enables non-destructive analysis of slurry homogeneity, viscosity, and solid-liquid interactions, supporting process optimization in electrode manufacturing.
  • Benchtop NMR for electrolyte formulation analysis - Compact NMR systems provide rapid, precise quantification of electrolyte components, aiding in formulation consistency and quality control.
  • Advanced operando analysis using Solid-State NMR and X-ray Diffraction (XRD)  - Combined solid-state NMR and XRD techniques allow real-time monitoring of structural and chemical changes in battery materials during operation.

Speakers

Dr. Eduardo Nascimento

Solution Product Manager - Polymer & Battery Industry Markets, Bruker BioSpin

Eduardo Nascimento, Ph.D. in Chemistry, joined Bruker in 2013 as an application engineer. He is currently the Manager of Bruker`s global Magnetic Resonance solutions team for the lithium battery and polymer industry and has many years of experience in Magnetic Resonance and Applied Industry. As Solution Product Manager, Eduardo is respnisble for understanding the industry challenges and proposing analytical solutions based on Magnetic Resonance tailored to customer needs. Eduardo and the Bruker Battery Team are currently working on solutions for the battery electrolyte quality control, electrode slurry stability, dendritic lithium monitoring in cycled batteries and battery development in general.
