NMR Investigations of Liquid State Zero Quantum Transitions in Homogeneous and Inhomogeneous Magnetic Fields

Zero-Quantum Coherence (ZQC) is independent of magnetic field inhomogeneities, enabling narrower lines in the zero-quantum dimension. This application note demonstrates a pseudo-2D pulse sequence for acquiring and analyzing ZQC spectra of quinine.

Why This Matters

Magnetic field inhomogeneity can broaden conventional NMR signals and limit the extraction of chemical shift and scalar coupling information. ZQC provides access to valuable spectral information even under inhomogeneous magnetic field conditions.

Key Benefits

  • Reduced sensitivity to field inhomogeneity in the zero-quantum dimension
  • Extraction of chemical shift and J-coupling information from coupled spin systems
  • Practical ZQC analysis demonstrated for AX and AMX spin systems
  • Detailed pulse sequence included for experimental implementation
