DISCOVER the fast track to thermodynamics: profiling with SPR

On demand

Webinar Overview

In this episode of the Bruker Biosensors DISCOVER MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS webinar series we showcase how SPR can be used to perform a thermodynamic profiling and determine activation energies. Thermodynamic properties can have profound effects on a drug’s clinical efficacy.

In this webinar you will learn how SPR cannot only be applied to detect the binding of small molecules to their target proteins, but to determine the thermodynamic profile of the interaction.

Key Learning Objectives

This webinar is part of the webinar series DISCOVER MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS by Bruker Biosensors. In this episode, Dr. Cyrill Brunner will explain how Surface Plasmon Resonance can be used to perform a thermodynamic profiling and determine activation energies.

Thermodynamic properties can have profound effects on a drug’s clinical efficacy. Their assessment using SPR is demonstrated using 8 different compounds binding to 2 different proteins in a multiplexing assay. Results are compared with isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). Furthermore, it is discussed how thermodynamics obtained using SPR can give additional information on the binding mode and selectivity of small molecules.

Speaker

Cyrill Brunner, Ph.D.
Senior Application Scientist, Bruker Switzerland, Fällanden, Switzerland

Dr. Cyrill Brunner is a trained pharmacist and obtained his Ph.D. at ETH Zurich in the group of Prof. Gisbert Schneider. His main background is numerous biophysical assays including SPR and computational drug design. He joined Bruker as an application specialist in April 2020 and heads the SPR application lab in Fällanden, Switzerland.
