Application Training

Advanced Chemical Crystallography

This course is designed for experienced users of the Bruker D8 QUEST or D8 VENTURE systems for X-ray crystal structure determination (chemical crystallography). The course includes instruction and lab time. The training is in English, so participants should have strong English skills.

This course covers the following:

  • Discussion of data collection techniques and strategies for difficult problems
    • Small or weakly diffracting samples
    • Unstable or air-sensitive samples
    • Twinned crystals
  • Hands-on use of a Bruker single crystal diffraction system with low-temperature device
  • Structure determination with APEX4 software suite for challenging samples: disorder and twinning
    • Data collection strategies
    • Advanced data integration and analysis techniques
    • Advanced structure determination and refinement techniques
  • Routine maintenance of software and hardware
  • Students are encouraged to bring his/her own samples and problem data
