Microbial Identification for Clinical Laboratories (IVD-CE)

MALDI Biotyper® Library (IVD-CE)

The heart of the IVD MALDI Biotyper®, enabling fast, accurate and reliable microorganism identification

MALDI Biotyper® IVD-CE Library

The principle behind identification of microorganisms with the IVD MALDI Biotyper® (MBT) is the comparison of the mass spectrum of an unknown organism with a library of reference mass spectra.

Bruker has invested substantial resources to collecting as many species and obtaining as broad strain coverage as possible, to build up the most comprehensive libraries for users. As an ever-evolving platform, the MBT has a broader identification scope than all other molecular platforms.

The pillars of the IVD MALDI Biotyper®

For the MALDI Biotyper IVD workflow there are three different libraries available:

The MBT IVD reference library comprises spectra from thousands of strains for 3,159 species, including the common clinical species and also rare microorganisms.

The MBT IVD Library Extension covers 5 species from 5 genera, and allows for early detection of highly pathogenic microorganisms in your IVD workflow, hence improving patient care, laboratory safety, and protection of public health.

The optional MBT Mycobacteria IVD Module holds a specific reference spectrum library for 178 of the currently known 201 mycobacteria species, covering the natural variability of Mycobacterium species.
