Bruker continues to nurture its world class talent

Shan Haiping, China Sales Director, has been with Bruker AXS for over 20 years. In that time, he has participated in the ongoing development of X-ray analysis equipment and witnessed the rapid evolution of China’s scientific research capabilities.

Across the Bruker business, our most valuable asset is, without a doubt, our people. Continuous professional training, both formal and on-the-job, is offered for professional and personal development, from apprentices starting out in their careers to those who have been in the business for decades. As equipment and technology evolves, there is always something to learn at every level of experience.

Shan Haiping, China Sales Director, has been with Bruker AXS for over 20 years. In that time, he has participated in the ongoing development of X-ray analysis equipment and witnessed the rapid evolution of China’s scientific research capabilities. We spoke with Shan about the importance of developing and training his team, which has been a predominant factor in employee retention rates.

“Prior to my role here, I taught at Tsinghau University, engaging in scientific research in biological materials. Since joining Bruker, I have been eager to continue my passion of learning about the biological field and for my team to progress their knowledge as much as possible to keep up with the demands of this fast-paced industry. At Bruker, we see ourselves not only as a scientific instrument manufacturer but also as a partner to the scientists and businesses we work with. This means that our knowledge must be comprehensive and up to date to ensure we can help meet our client’s needs.”

The training provided is key for all aspects of the business to keep up with the pace of innovation at Bruker. This requires strong knowledge of the technology and a good understanding of its application. As the applications develop, training is essential to enable vital customer support. Training can vary depending on job role and includes professional courses delivered by our partners, our internal leadership training program, small group exercises and college courses for our apprentices.

Shan continues, “For our team, we provide a full range of training, on both scientific technology as well as in personal development, on a yearly basis. We also organize experience exchange meetings between colleagues so that employees can share key learnings that we can all benefit from, enabling greater efficiency across the different teams. Training is an integral part of what we do and key to how we improve. Without it, we would not be able to provide our customers with the unique service they currently receive.”

So, what does it take to be a part of Shan’s team?

“For me, a Bruker sales engineer should be a solution provider and good team spirit is crucial to be truly effective in the role. Cooperation with customers, understanding the industry and strong analysis capabilities also help to support a customer’s business needs. The most important factor is the ability to want to learn. With our technology constantly improving, team members must be eager to grow their knowledge of new techniques both within Bruker and the wider industry. Learning is vital for sales roles and I’m always looking for a proactive person who shows passion and desire when it comes to supporting customers.”
