I grew up in Portugal and lived there until 2012, when I completed my BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra. I moved to Germany to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Hamburg. It was there that I discovered my passion for mass spectrometry and proteomics—a turning point that shaped my career path.
Inspired by this newfound interest, I stayed on to complete my PhD and a future in academia seemed like an obvious choice. However, over time, I realized that academia no longer provided the professional fulfillment I was seeking. Still, I wanted a role that combined my love for mass spectrometry, teaching, and problem-solving in a meaningful role outside the academic world.
During a deep dive into job descriptions, I came across the role of Field Application Scientist at Bruker. On paper, it sounded like the perfect fit—and it truly was.
I joined Bruker in July 2020, right amid the COVID-19 lockdowns. Despite the challenging circumstances, I was warmly welcomed by colleagues across the commercial, application development, and service teams. Even working from my home office, I never felt alone. The travel experiences during that time were unforgettable and have left me with stories I’ll be sharing for years to come.
As the Field Application Scientist role gained recognition within Bruker, I was given the opportunity to build a team for the DACH region at the end of 2021. Today, I’m proud to lead a team of nine incredibly talented scientists who support customers in both academia and the pharmaceutical industry. We’re closely connected with FAS colleagues across EMEA, and we continue to learn and grow together every day.
