In this episode, we welcome Tomas Paulenda from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA as our guest speaker. Tomas is investigating the immunoregulatory effects of small metabolites. He studies how metabolites can modulate activation of macrophage and other immune cells.

In the presented work he identified the molecular mechanism of how itaconate boosts type I interferon signaling and blocks inflammasome activation and linked it to non-covalent interactions between itaconate and Peroxiredoxin 5. You will learn more about immunometabolic regulatory pathways as well as biophysical characterizations of small-molecule – protein interactions.
