Industrial Applications

Composites

Composite materials are created by combining two or more dissimilar components into a new hybrid material. A common example is fibers combined with a polymer matrix resulting in a high strength, lightweight product that can be manufactured into a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
Applications of XRM in Composite Industries

Inspection and Failure analysis of composites by XRM

Fabrication of composites for critical applications can be a complicated task. X-ray Microscopy provides a non-destructive three dimensional view into composite structures supporting both R&D and production applications. Common examples include determination of fiber orientation, visualization of defects such as pores within the composite matrix and verification of the overall component internal and external dimensions. In addition, XRM brings a new dimension to failure analysis allowing inspection of the internal structure without destructive sectioning methods.
