Process Control with Raman Spectroscopy

Real-Time PAT. Real Simple.

Measurements You Can Trust

Bruker is a global leader in Process Raman spectroscopy, delivering advanced chemical analysis and measurement systems designed for real-time, non-invasive monitoring in industrial and laboratory environments. Our Raman analyzers are built around proprietary optical innovations that provide exceptional performance, making them ideal for applications in process control, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

Why Raman for Process?

Raman spectroscopy is a highly selective, non-destructive optical technique that uses the inelastic scattering of laser light to probe molecular structure and composition. Its ability to generate detailed, molecule-specific spectral fingerprints makes it ideal for identifying and quantifying chemical species in complex mixtures.

Because Raman measurements can be performed directly through transparent containers or in-line with fiber-optic probes, they are well-suited for real-time monitoring of manufacturing processes. This enables continuous insight into reaction dynamics, material transformations, and product quality without the need for sampling or interruption.

By improving process understanding and enabling effective control strategies, Raman spectroscopy helps reduce variability, minimize production errors, and support regulatory compliance in modern manufacturing environments.

Advanced Raman Spectroscopy Powered by HTVS™

Traditional high-resolution dispersive Raman spectrometers are limited by a fundamental trade-off between spectral resolution and optical throughput. To achieve high resolution, these systems use a physical slit to narrow the incoming light beam before dispersion. While effective at sharpening spectral features, this approach blocks 75–95% of the light, reducing total optical efficiency to below 5% in most cases.

Bruker addresses this challenge with its proprietary High Throughput Virtual Slit (HTVS™) technology. HTVS™ replicates the resolution-enhancing effect of a physical slit while preserving nearly 100% of the incoming light. This innovation eliminates the classic compromise between throughput and resolution, enabling faster measurements, lower detection limits, and safer operation in sensitive or hazardous environments.

Our customers benefit from

  • 10x–30x faster measurements
  • Lower laser power operation for hazardous environments
  • High-quality spectra at low analyte concentrations

By integrating HTVS™ into its Process Raman platforms, Bruker delivers high-performance, real-time chemical analysis that meets the demands of modern manufacturing, quality control, and process optimization without sacrificing sensitivity or speed.

HTVS eliminates the physical slit to maximize light throughput while preserving high spectral resolution.

Industries We Serve

Our Process Raman systems are built to meet the real-world demands of industries where precision, reliability, and speed are essential. Whether it’s ensuring consistent product quality, improving process efficiency, or meeting strict regulatory standards, our technology helps manufacturers and researchers gain deeper insight into their processes, right when and where it matters most.

Pharmaceuticals & Biotech

Widely used in pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing, Process Raman systems enable real-time release testing, in-line reaction monitoring, and continuous production. With non-destructive, real-time analysis directly in the process stream, they help ensure product quality, reduce batch variability, and speed up production, while supporting compliance with FDA and EMA PAT guidelines.

Chemical & Petrochemical

In complex and often hazardous chemical environments, real-time insight is critical. Our Raman analyzers provide safe, in-line monitoring of multi-step reactions, enabling better control, increased safety, and reduced waste in both batch and continuous processes.

Food & Beverage

Consistency and safety are paramount in food production. Process Raman enables rapid detection of adulterants, contaminants, and compositional changes, ensuring product integrity and compliance with quality standards, without the need for time-consuming lab testing.

Polymers & Plastics

In polymer manufacturing, Process Raman systems provide real-time monitoring of polymerization reactions and material consistency. This enables tighter control over reaction conditions, reduces off-spec batches, and ensures consistent product performance, supporting both quality assurance and process optimization.

Energy & Environmental

From biofuel production to emissions monitoring, Process Raman supports sustainable practices and regulatory compliance. It enables real-time tracking of chemical conversions and pollutant levels, contributing to greener, more efficient operations.

Raman spectroscopy enables molecular analysis both in the lab and directly in the manufacturing process.
