Bruker introduced the IVD-CE certified MALDI Biotyper solution in 2009 for clinical microbiology and since then it has quickly become established as the method of choice for routine clinical microbiology laboratories.

The MALDI Biotyper is a microbial identification system based on MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry allowing unbiased identification of microorganisms within a few minutes down to the species level.

The MALDI Biotyper is an easy, rapid, robust, high-throughput, cost-effective and efficient identification technology. Continued expansion of the IVD reference library ensures the inclusion of common clinical microorganisms as well as rare organisms.

Mycobacteria identification

The MBT Mycobacteria Suite is the comprehensive solution for laboratories in need of highly reliable and fast mycobacteria identification via MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

The MBT Mycobacteria Library covers 178 of the currently known 201 species and, with 807 strains, the natural variability of Mycobacterium species. The MBT Mycobacteria Software Module with adapted data acquisition and analysis methods secures high sensitivity of mycobacteria identifications.

Resistance detection via MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry

The MBT STAR®-Carba IVD Assay is the first assay for mass-spectrometric resistance testing. The assay detects carbapenemase activity from bacterial isolates from culture but also from bacteria directly isolated from positive blood cultures in conjunction with the MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit. Similarly, the more recent MBT STAR®-Cepha IVD Assay allows the detection of resistance towards 3rd generation cephalosporins within just one hour after a positive blood culture alert.



Direct identification of microorganisms from positive blood culture

The MALDI Biotyper has been successfully applied to the identification of microorganisms directly from positive blood culture. The IVD-CE certified MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit enables identification of Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, and yeast from positive blood culture within 15 - 20 minutes.
