We will share some tips and tricks with you to generate illustrative images and movies using the full software suite available, as well as a few words on how to embed them in a movie presentation for automatic displaying.

Tips and tricks for images and movies

In this newsletter we will demonstrate several types of movies and images that can be used in a PowerPoint to illustrate your experiment. This month, the method note can be found in a movie show (download .mp4 file) (download .mov file). It is explained how to include a projection image when only the reconstructed dataset is saved. In case the projection data is still available, it can even be used for a projection movie to demonstrate the scanning process while reconstruction can be illustrated by means of a crossection movie. Both movies can be made in CTAn. To increase the speed of both projection and reconstruction movies without compromising the resolution some processing steps in NRecon are demonstrated.

To generate a 3D movie, a quickstart guide is available for the actual volume rendering of the data into a 3D model, using CTVox. Some basic tips to get a good first visual impression in a quick and easy way are explained in the presentation. We unravel the channels of the transfer function. Adjusting the camera viewing angle can provide a more realistic feel to your picture. The storyboard can be used to save a collection of image positions and reopen and/or adjust them at a later point in time. By means of interpolation between the various image positions an entire movie flight is created which can also be saved. One of the tips to upgrade your movies is the use of numerical movements for a smooth ride.

Even more, by means of saving the storyboard, all your work can now easily be reproduced on additional datasets, coming from the same original data (as in the movie show) or a different scan, in which case coregistration in Dataviewer its applicable. Most of these tips also apply to surface rendering in CTVol.

More information on the methods of surface and volume rendering can be found in dedicated method notes from previous Academy newsletters, accessible on our sharepoint. Finally, with some simple adjustments your movies can be embedded in a presentation and with some well-considered settings all movies can start to play automatically and simultaneously.

Bruker microCT News

The deadline for abstract submission for our international Bruker microCT User Meeting is tomorrow 18th March! The 3-day event located in the the Royal Belgium Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels will take place from May 9 till May 12. As a support for our users who are willing to submit a paper Bruker microCT will be pleased to offer the presenting authors for oral talks their hotel accommodation (3 nights) at Thon Hotel Brussels. Also poster presenters will be supported, we offer them 1 night at Thon Hotel Brussels. Paper approval date is on March 25th. Deadline for registration and submission for movie/picture contest is on April 8th.
