Bruker’s Handheld XRF Device

Bruker’s handheld XRF device is an elemental analysis device that offers the following benefits:

  • Detect the presence of elements from magnesium (Mg) to uranium (U) in a variety of sample types including alloys, soil, plastics, and many more
  • Analysis of most samples within a matter of seconds
  • Fully portable, handheld operation
  • Near laboratory accuracy and precision (depending on sample type and sample preparation)
  • On-board alloy library for fast, accurate alloy grade identification
  • Completely non-destructive analysis; analysis does not alter sample in any way

A Bruker handheld XRF device is an ideal tool for many industry and regulatory compliance applications where knowing the exact elemental composition of a sample is essential to efficient operations, important business decisions, occupational or consumer safety, ISO-9000 compliance, etc.

What is an XRF Device?

An XRF device is an elemental analysis instrument that uses X-ray fluorescence technology to determine each element that is present in a sample, and to quantify the elements present. An XRF device sends out a primary photon beam into a sample, thereby exciting the electrons in the atoms of the sample. This excitation causes electrons in the sample to leave their orbits, and other electrons to take their place. A specific energy is released by each displaced electron, because the energy released in the change is unique to atoms of each element. The release of unique energies by atoms of various elements is what allows the XRF device to determine which elements are present in any given sample; the number of energies of each type detected allows the XRF device to determine the quantity of the elements in the sample.
