Solid Form Quantification – A New Benchtop Solution

Quantification of components in solid mixtures like formulated materials is crucial in material sciences. Especially in the pharmaceutical industry, API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) form quantification plays a central role from early drug development to manufacturing. The new benchtop solution the minispec Form Check offers an easy and non-destructive way to determine the ratio of either different drug components or various solid forms in a substance.

Overview

Bruker introduces an easy-to-use method for fast quantification of solid forms, including amorphization, by combining the reliable minispec mq20 benchtop system with the well established Dynamics Center software into the minispec Form Check. The webinar will highlight the advantages of the patented solid form quantification approach compared to methods which are currently used, like solid-state NMR, X-ray powder diffraction or thermogravimetry.

The webinar will showcase its ease of use and how anybody who perhaps is not trained in NMR can still use the new method. Therefore, a special focus will be put in the fast and straightforward calibration and the automated data analysis. In a conclusion, an overview about possible fields of applications will be given.

What to Expect

After a short outline to TD-NMR (Time-Domain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), the webinar will focus on the ease of use of the minispec Form Check approach, even for non-NMR experts, and the advantages compared to existing methods. It will detail how you can distinguish between two different solid forms to test the concentration of the lead API and gives an overview about the potential of this solid form quantification approach.

Key Topics

An Overview of TD NMR

  • What TD NMR is
  • Its ease of use: non-expert workflow
  • The minispec mq20: cost-effectiveness, small footprint, cryogen-free, versatile

Solid Form Quantification

  • Non-destructive and non-invasive
  • Sample texture: powders, tablets, gels
  • Fast and straightforward calibration
  • Determining ratios in mass percentages via 1H or 19F information
  • characterizing API solid forms: including amorphization and interactions with excipients

Who Should Attend?

The webinar is aimed for people who are in the pharmaceutical industry and particularly for those who are involved with drug development, but also those involved in the production of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the webinar is also of interest to people from other industries who face challenges in formulating solid mixtures.

Speakers

Dr. Venita Decker

Product Manager FT-NMR benchtop solutions, BBIO, Bruker BioSpin, Rheinstetten, Germany

Dr. Venita Decker studied Neuroscience, but did her dissertation in the field of solid-state NMR (Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Goettingen). In 2012, she joined the Bruker solid-state NMR application. As a NMR-late entrant she since then actively supported Bruker solutions that simplify the complexity of NMR (TopSolids, the minispec FormCheck). Since 2018, she is the Product Manager for FT-NMR benchtop solutions, bringing her mission to the next level.

Marcio Cobo Ph.D.

NMR methods Developer - Bruker BioSpin (Ettlingen, Germany)

Marcio Fernando Cobo studied physics and holds a doctoral degree from the Institute of Physics of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He worked on development of diverse methods in High Resolution (Solid State and Liquid State) NMR and Time Domain NMR.

Marcio joined Bruker in 2013, as a Method Developer, developing novel solutions to diverse fields, ranging from Polymer’s characterization and Food quality control to Narcotics Profiling.
